Machine Learning Applications of Leftover Materials in Digital Fabrication
coming soon...
Leftover Project, is a personal construct created by Ilkyaz Sarimehmetoglu to investigate material waste as a potential source for retro-fitting. It tries to understand different clusters of materials such as additive manufacturing supports or scaffholdings, subtractive manufacturing leftovers, unused fibrous deconstructions and categorize them for possible repurposing and retrofitting. Sometimes the leftovers are realized as editorials with visual computing, sometimes as geometric boundaries for volume fits and sometimes representative samples of material properties. All features in relation, the project tries to recycle and repurpose according to new functionalities.
Machine learning processes help distinguish samples from one another through image recognitions, sorting and pairing with scenarios to be matched.
